So for example membership for 2008 commences at 00.00hours of the day after the membership application is processed by the AAC(UK) Office, which may be in early December 2007. Membership continues to 31 January 2009, but insurance cover in January 2009 will not be valid unless membership is renewed before the end of January 2009. .

Family applications

Details of ALL members of the family who are joining AAC(UK) are ESSENTIAL. So please fill in the Names, Birth dates and Genders of the children in the box near the bottom of the Application Form. Membership cards will be issued for each member of the family and show individual membership categories. Children's cards should be signed by a parent or guardian.

Insurance

Membership of AAC(UK)/OeAV includes annual rescue and repatriation insurance cover with no age limit. A description of the OeAV/AWS insurance cover can be downloaded from our insurance page.

AAC(UK) Hut Fund

The OeAV Mountain Huts belong to individual sections. Despite thousands of Euros from central OeAV funds and grants from Austrian provincial governments, the sections themselves must find large sums for hut maintenance and modernisation. As well as the high cost of installing and maintaining environmentally friendly waste disposal systems, global warming is having a dire effect on foundations of some of the higher huts – a very costly problem.

Based so far from the Alps, Sektion Britannia [AAC(UK)] does not own any huts, nor does it have a ‘work area’ with responsibility for waymarking and path maintenance. Instead, we have a Hut Fund, to which members have contributed generously over the years, and we hope you will continue the tradition. The donations we make to help individual Sections with a particular project are usually much appreciated by those sections. Recent donations include:

  • € 20,000 in 2002 to the Naviser Hut (Tuxer Alps) for extensive renovation.
  • € 20,000 in 2005, 2006 to the Muttekopf Hut (Lechtaler Alps) to help major remedial work
  • €10,000 in 2007 to the Admonter Haus (Ennstaler Alpen) for the renovation of the kitchen and larder to meet Health and Safety Regulations.
  • €10,000 in 2007 to the Steinsee Hütte (Lechtaller Alpen) to help install solar heating and two warm showers.

AAC(UK) Expedition Fund

Donations to this Fund enable the section to help finance expeditions by AAC(UK) members. From 2004 to 2006 AAC(UK) donated £350 for a 'Greenland White Sea Expedition’, £250 for 'Exercise Tasmanian Dragon', £500 for a Scottish Huayhuash expedition to Ecuador and £200 for an expedition to the Miyar Nala region of India.
