Tony Freake
Death of our President

After a long battle against his illness Tony Freake died on Sunday 27th December at home, having had the company of his family at Christmas. The Club mourns the loss of our President and long term past Chairman. Our sympathies go out, as will those of all his friends here, and overseas in Austria and Nepal, to Sheila and the rest of their family.
Tony Freake’s funeral took place at All Saints Church, Old Buckenham (about 15 miles SW of Norwich) on Tuesday 19 January. It was attended by about 150 people, including a significant contingent of AAC(UK) members from all parts of the country. Four tributes were presented by members of the congregation, including AAC members Martin Haydon and George Taylor. These tributes, together with a contribution from the Rev Alistair Monkhouse, covering different aspects of Tony’s life, made it quite clear that Tony was a very remarkable person – not least due to his outstanding contribution to the Phortse Community in Nepal. Tony's award of the Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal for his work with the 'Phortse Community Project' in Nepal is documented in a separate Newsletter Article and Press Release'
We have separately published funeral eulogies or tributes on this website from:
An obituary will appear in the AAC(UK) Newsletter – probably in the Summer 2010 issue. A newspaper obituary appeared in the Guardian on Sunday 7th February.
If you wish to remember Tony in a practical way, and have not yet done so, donations can be made to the 'Phortse Community Project' and sent to Rosedale Funeral Home, Yard House, High Street, Attleborough, Norfolk NR17 2EH, UK.
