A volunteer is sought to assume complete editorial control of the Club’s quarterly Newsletter from the end of 2011, soliciting content, selecting that which is most appropriate, liaising with our proof-reader and interfacing directly with the graphics designer who takes care of layout. If this challenge is of genuine interest to you, please contact the Club Secretary via the AAC(UK) Office for further details.

Book Review

Pocket First Aid & Wilderness Medecine

by Dr Jim Duff & Dr Peter Gormly
Cicerone Press, 10th Edition 2007 ISBN 13 978 1 85284 500 1 £7.99.

This well established book is aimed at mountaineers and others venturing into remote areas. It is divided into three parts:
1 Fundamentals, which cover preparation, prevention, first aid kits and the use of medications and pain killers.
2 Accident and illness procedures. which explains how to deal with accidents and illness.
3 Problems and their treatment, which deals with specific accidents and illnesses.
It contains a great deal of information so it is as well to heed the authors' advice to be familiar with its general layout and content before needing to rely on it in the field.
