A volunteer is sought to assume complete editorial control of the Club’s quarterly Newsletter from the end of 2011, soliciting content, selecting that which is most appropriate, liaising with our proof-reader and interfacing directly with the graphics designer who takes care of layout. If this challenge is of genuine interest to you, please contact the Club Secretary via the AAC(UK) Office for further details.

Alpenverein Hut Charges
During 2007 the OeAV, DAV and AVS agreed to rationalise the Hut Regulations for all of their mountain huts. They agreed a common practice across all the Alpenverein huts in the eastern Alps and modified some of the rules in the light of recent technological developments. The result is a much clearer and simpler set of Rules for Category I and II Huts. It is now accepted that it is possible to book places in huts in advance. However, if you are moving from hut to hut in most cases it remains impractical to book more than one day ahead since progress through the mountains is so dependent on the weather. Hut guardians can only accept advance bookings for a maximum of 75% of sleeping places, and the hut owning sections can charge a deposit for advance bookings. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on hut premises.
In addition the OeAV and DAV agreed a common framework of upper limits for charges for overnight fees for members and people with reciprocal rights. The 2008 overnight tariffs include a rescue levy (€0.07) and a charge for baggage insurance (DAV 0.05/OeAV €0.01).

A fee for heating or for firewood (max. €2.50/ night for heated bedrooms, max. €1.80/night for heated Matratzenlager) can be added to the overnight tariff. No fee may be charged for the heating of the living rooms of manned huts.
The cost to members of Bergsteigeressen should not be more than €7.0. Only members have the right to Teewasser at €2.50/litre (inc. 2 cups). Members who use the hut without buying any refreshments from the hut pay a daily charge of €2.50/day for use of the facilities and €1.00/meal. If there is a self catering room/winter room then members using it pay €2.50 a day, in addition to the overnight tariff, and another €2.50 for fuel. Non-members have no right to self-cater.
An environmental charge of €0.5 can be levied from all visitors (members and non-members) who do not overnight in the hut. This is given to the hut owning section and is earmarked for use for environmental measures around the hut, to cover the high costs entailed in the care and maintenance of sewage purification installations and other environmental technology.
The Alpenverein have no jurisdiction over private huts or those belonging to other organisations.
