Public Website

A volunteer is sought to assume complete editorial control of the Club’s quarterly Newsletter from the end of 2011, soliciting content, selecting that which is most appropriate, liaising with our proof-reader and interfacing directly with the graphics designer who takes care of layout. If this challenge is of genuine interest to you, please contact the Club Secretary via the AAC(UK) Office for further details.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Miscellaneous Subjects

Why are meets deposits non-refundable in case of cancellation?

Many of our meets are very popular and places are filled very quickly. If meets deposits were refundable there would be nothing to deter members from booking places early on the off-chance that they might wish to attend, knowing that they can cancel at the last minute without it costing them anything.

Are there no circumstances when meets deposits might be refunded?

Yes, but only if the cancelled place can be filled by another member.

When are the alpine huts open? And how do I contact them? How do I book them? Can we have a booking form?

Alpenverein Huts (i.e., those belonging to OeAV Sektions). On our website Alpine Links page there is a link to the Austrian Huts Website (in English) which gives full details of each hut, including opening times, booking information, contact addresses and phone numbers. On the Benefits page, pull down Alpine Hut Information from where there are links to downloadable bilingual Hut Booking Forms, but note that these are intended for use by groups booking for several days in one hut. There is generally no need for small groups of members to book in advance, just turn up at a hut. However, you can book by contacting the individual huts directly.

Other Alpine Huts. Details of huts belonging to the other national alpine mountaineering clubs with whom we enjoy reciprocal rights may be found via our Alpine Links Page. In addition there are many privately owned mountain huts throughout the Alps about which we have no comprehensive details.

What is the weather like in Austria at this moment?

On our website Weather Links page there are links to several good mountain weather websites.

How do I order items listed on the website?

Please phone the AAC(UK) Office identifying the item(s), and the method of payment. Alternatively, please print, complete and post the Order Form. Never quote credit card details in an email. Please note that our sales items may be purchased only by members, and membership numbers must be provided and are checked.

Why may we not download past Newsletters from the Website?

Although we do have pdf files of these Newsletters, the file sizes are very large, often over 7MB. This would make the download times too long for viability, even with a broadband connection.

However, the Contents of the Latest Newsletter are all linked together on one page within the Members' Website.

What if my question is not in this list or any of the other lists available?

Please contact the AAC(UK) Office, and we will do our best to answer it.
