A volunteer is sought to assume complete editorial control of the Club’s quarterly Newsletter from the end of 2011, soliciting content, selecting that which is most appropriate, liaising with our proof-reader and interfacing directly with the graphics designer who takes care of layout. If this challenge is of genuine interest to you, please contact the Club Secretary via the AAC(UK) Office for further details.

The AAC(UK) recognises that climbing, hill and country walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.

Under the Club rules, the Club, its officers, committee members and persons acting on behalf of the Club cannot be held liable for any loss or injury occurring to any member of the Club while taking part in its activities.

This walking programme provides an opportunity for members to meet one another and keep their walking fitness while not in the Alps. The walks are usually fairly strenuous, and the best ones have a significant cumulative ascent. Most of the walks in the South of England are organised to start at a Railway Station with a train connection to a central London Mainline Station, and often connections to regional stations too, although details of these are not usually given. Most of the Southern walks, and some Northern walks, have a pub stop for lunch, followed by the second stage of the walk in the afternoon. Please do not consume your own food or drink at the pubs.

Do you need to book for a Day Walk? – Not usually unless it is special walk such as a Luncheon walk, simply arrive at the meeting place. At railway stations meet outside the main entrance. The current Ordnance Survey Maps are indicated by their number, prefaced by: LR (Land Ranger) for 1:50,000, E (Explorer) or EOL (Explorer Outdoor Leisure) for 1:25,000 maps.

Warnings

1. Walk start times are usually based around the published railway timetables. Be aware that these times can change at short notice due to essential railway maintenence work, so please check before you set out. If Walk Leaders let the Webmaster know of any changes, this list can be speedily updated.

2. If severe weather warnings are given, contact the AAC(UK) Office or designated Walk Leader beforehand.
